Selena Gomez Inspired Look (Love You Like A Love Song)

Selena3-tileThis is a tutorial on how to achieve Selena Gomez’ first look in her latest music video, Love You Like A Love Song. It was my sister, Iza, who requested for this look. I actually love all the other makeup looks Selena wore in the music video, and I think I’ll be doing the other looks next!

This tutorial is also a great opportunity to finally feature LuLu Makeup’s RIO PALETTE!

If you haven’t read about it yet, I just recently went into partnership with LuLu Makeup—one of Manila’s newest and hottest makeup line! LuLu Makeup is currently running their Introductory Price Promo! Get the Rio Palette at 850.00 instead of 950.00! The Rio Palette is one of my personal favorites! I hope you check out the website and stay tuned for a lot of surprises from LuLu Makeup!

This look basically involves deep-set purple eyes, intense pearly-gold E/S on the inner corners of the eyes, a bold orangey-red lip color topped with soft gloss, contours, and not to mention the gorgeous big hair.

To get the big hair Selena wore in the video, I sectioned my hair into 5-6 sections and curled them as usual using my BaByliss iPRO 200 Sol-Gel Titanium Iron. After curling each section, I put them in a tight bun. I set my hair about 30 minutes before filming—this will create tighter curls, hence a lot of body and volume upon removal of the elastics. Heat protectant used is CPR by Monea. After makeup application, all you have to do is remove all the elastic, flip your hair forward, run your fingers through, spray hairpray (Etude House' Sweet Style Hairspray), flip back, and style. I recommend doing a bit of teasing to add more drama and create bigger volume to the hairstyle.

Moving on to makeup application…

  1. Moisturize your face well. I recommend using Neutrogena’s HydroBoost WaterGel (Watsons, PHP 830.00/50g) or Skin Hour’s Mattifying Day Cream (which doubles as a primer as well!)
  2. Conceal imperfections.
  3. Apply foundation. (CoverGirl AquaSmooth Makeup Foundation in Creamy Natural, Covergirl Counter PHP 545.00)
  4. Set foundation in. (Fanny Serrano Two-Way Cake in Organza, Department Store (SM) PHP 399.00)
  5. Define brows. (Maybelline Brow Definist by Eyestudio)
  6. Apply primer on your lids and lower lash line area. (E.l.f. Eye Primer)
  7. Select the blue eyeshadow from the (Rio Palette, LuLu Makeup PHP 850.00) and apply a layer on your lids.
  8. Select the purple eyeshadow from the (Rio Palette, LuLu Makeup PHP 850.00) and apply over the blue. The key is building up the color.
  9. Select the black eyeshadow and use an angled brush (Megaga Eyebrow Brush) to outline your eyes *watch the video embedded on the end of this post for reference*
  10. Combine the blue and purple eyeshadow together and fill in the outline. Remember to build the color up.
  11. Use the black eyeshadow again and darken the crease area.
  12. Combine the black and the purple eyeshadow and apply it on the outer half of the lower lashline. Create a sweeping-out effect.
  13. Use a pearly-gold eyeshadow and apply on the inner corners of the eyes.
  14. Tightline your upper and lower lashline. (Nichido Black Eye Pencil)
  15. Line your eyes and create a small wing (Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Black)
  16. Apply lashes (LashGrip used as lash glue, Beauty Bar PHP 195.00)
  17. Curl lashes and apply mascara (E.l.f. Mechanical Lash Curler and Maybelline Stiletto Mascara, Maybelline Counter PHP 349.00)
  18. Contour cheekbones and nosebridge. *not shown in the video*
  19. Apply an orangey-red lip color (Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick in Scarlet, Watsons PHP 125.00)
  20. Apply gloss over the lip color (E.l.f. Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF15 in Candelight, Watsons, PHP 129.75)

Meet-up with My Readers/Subscribers from UST-College of Education

DSC02316I went to school extra early today to meet-up with readers/subscribers. It was actually through my fan page or my blog (if I remember correctly) that all of this came to be. It was really fun to meet up with people from my own university who watch my videos and read my blog! In the photo above, I am with Genelle, Alea and Maden (L-R). Philip was also there with us! They are from the UST-College of Education, already on their 2nd year! It was so funny how I kept thinking, “Ohhh mag-kakabatch lang pala kami. (Ohhh, we’re all of the same batch!)” And suddenly remembered I’m already on my 3rd year!

Genelle was really funny. She kept saying “OMG”—which reminded me of myself when I met Judy!!! Told her I’m just another human being. Hahahaha! Alea wanted to take a peek in my makeup bag—which was not very organized today. It was embarrassing because I brought a TON of makeup to school! Not that I need them all, but just because I wanted to bring them. Maden is sooo cute—I want her to be my little sister! They’re all actually very friendly! Philip was just there… Hahaha I don’t think he’s interested in makeup at all. But it’s really nice—he even took our photos, too! And it was really heartwarming that their barkada came to meet me!

I really enjoyed talking to them. Even if it was for only 30 minutes or so. I shared to them my current favorite lip gloss (which I have yet to make a video and blog about). So they kind of got first-hand info. I am gonna meet them again soon! Hopefully go to lunch together. These girls remind me of little sisters! They’re just too adorable. And to think they only discovered my videos a few weeks ago!!!

It’s always nice to meet people.

Thank you so much for this Alea, Maden, Genelle and Philip!

I’ll see you guys soon.

P.S. It was really windy, so you’ll have to excuse my photos with my hand holding my hair in place/my hair all over my face.

PMS Breakout Buddies: For Women with Raging Hormones

DSC02312

It’s no secret how I wear makeup to school everyday. When it comes to that time of the month, I break-out like hell. The magic of concealer, foundation and setting powder makes it all disappear…but not for long! At the end of the day, you’ll have to wash all the makeup off and deal with it.

This is usually my routine in removing makeup everyday (sans the mask—which is for every other day only):

  1. Remove eye and lip makeup with Etude House Eye and Lip Makeup Remover (PHP 198.00).
  2. Apply St. Ives Fresh Skin Makeup Remover and Facial Cleanser then wash it off
  3. Pump out Neutrogena' Hydroboost Mousse Cleanser and apply it all over my face thoroughly—this will remove all the makeup, wash off afterwards
  4. Pat dry
  5. Apply Queen Helene’s Mint Julep Masque—such a tingling and cooling sensation on the face. Put on for about 15-30 minutes (I can wear it for an hour!) and rinse off—your zits should look much calmer now.
  6. Apply moisturizer (I use Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel—not in photo) and apply Benzoyl Peroxide—not in photo, on the zits (dot them on)
  7. Sleep on a clean pillow!
  8. Tomorrow you shall wake up with almost healed zits.

KarminMusic’s Amy Heidemann: Suicide Roll Hairstyle Tutorial

HPIM2291-horzA quick tutorial on how to do the Suicide Roll which is worn by Amy Heidemann of KarminMusic so often. I have received a couple of requests on how to do this hairstyle after I posted the KarminMusic Amy Heidemann Inspired Makeup Look and I finally found the time to do it.

Things you need:

  1. Bobby pins (I only used 3 pins)
  2. Hairspray (I used Etude House’s Sweet Style ULTRA Hard Hairspray)
  3. Tail comb (For teasing and smoothing out the hair)
  4. Patience

Procedures:

  1. Gather a portion of your hair on the bangs area.
  2. Back comb your hair to create volume
  3. Smooth out the top area
  4. Wrap the lock of hair around your index finger
  5. Carefully take your finger out while securing the rolled hair
  6. Find the center of the roll and stick the first pin in it
  7. Continue securing the roll until desired shape is achieved
  8. Spray on hairspray

And there you have it! The “Suicide Roll” inspired by the beautiful Amy Heidemann of Karmin.

And if by any chance you still haven’t watched the makeup tutorial I did inspired by Amy, here it is:

“I Am My Own Walking Portfolio” Day 3 of 4: Hair and Makeup for School

IMG_2108We’re on Day 3 of 4. The weather is unbelievably awful today. I wanted to wear curls again just because. Kept my makeup pretty simple (in my makeup look dictionary, it is, but for others, this may seem a little bit “too much” again) Wanted to add a little some’in some’in hence, the lashes. Pink lips because the weather calls for it. Let’s save red smoochers for another sunny day. Read on to find out how I did my hair and makeup today…IMG_2109-horz

HAIR:

  1. Blow-dried my hair
  2. Sectioned my locks into 5 sections and putting them in buns
  3. Sprayed Monea CPR Heat Protectant on first section
  4. Curled using my BaByliss iPRO200 on 200 degrees Celcius
  5. Sprayed on Etude House’s Sweet Style Hair Spray Ultra Hard and twisted the curls back into a bun.
  6. Work on the other sections with the same steps (3-5)

MAKEUP:

  1. Moisturize, do your concealing, foundation and brow work. Same products used in Day 1 and 2, read here.
  2. Before working on my eyes, I did my contouring and blush work first. Used the same products: contouring—FS Two Way Cake in Orleans and blush—The Body Shop Roseflower Blush 02
  3. Highlighted my face using Etude House' Secret Beam Highlighter
  4. Applied Etude House’ Secret Beam Highlighter all over my lids and inner corners of my eyes (whoever said you can’t use it as E/S?)
  5. Lined my eyes as usual using Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
  6. Applied false lashes
  7. Curled lashes together and applied mascara
  8. Lined lower waterline with Fashion 21 White Eye Pencil
  9. Lined lower lashline using Beauty Marked E/S by MAC
  10. Used Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Color in Angel Rose for my lip color

That’s basically how I did this look.

Don’t let the weather make you feel blue!!! See you on Saturday for Day 4! (No classes tomorrow)

“I Am My Own Walking Portfolio” Day 2 of 4: 50’s Vintage Inspired

IMG_2062

We’re on Day 2 of 4! Today’s look is basically 50’s inspired. I bought ribbon headpieces last Sunday and I can’t express how much I love wearing them! Today, however, it didn’t feel quite right to wear it to school! So after taking this shot, I actually removed the ribbon headpiece—let’s save it for a gorgeous 50’s OOTD.

Here is a shot I took the night before (still wearing my Day 1 hair and makeup):IMG_2056To achieve my hair and makeup for Day 2 of 4, here’s what to do:

HAIR: towel dry, air dry, comb through, wear the ribbon headpiece (available at SM Dept. Store for PHP 99.75)

MAKEUP: I went for a sparkling white and smoked out eye look.

  1. Moisturize! I used Neutrogena’s Hydroboost Water Gel.
  2. Do your foundation, concealing, and brow work (I used the same procedures and products for this part from Day 1)
  3. MAC Shroom E/S (or any white E/S) all over the lids up to the brow bone and the inner thirds of the lower lashline
  4. MAC Beauty Marked E/S (any black or gray E/S will do) on the outer V—remember to sweep outward to create that smoky look, keep the center lid clean!
  5. Pat on a sparkling white E/S (I used Shawill’s E/S #5) on the center of the lids. Pat on the inner thirds of the lower lashline as well.
  6. Line your eyes, curl your lashes and apply mascara (same procedure from yesterday)
  7. Contour face. I used FS Two Way Cake in Orleans.
  8. Blush. The Body Shop Roseflower Blush in 02.
  9. Lip balm. EOS Summer Fruit.
  10. Lip color. I used Ever Bilena’s Matte Lipstick in Scarlet. (reddish-orange shade)

I know some of you won’t like the ribbon headpiece that much. But after reading this, you might reconsider.

See you tomorrow for Day 3!

“I Am My Own Walking Portfolio” Day 1 of 4: Hair and Makeup for School

If you follow me on Twitter, you would have probably seen my tweet saying “I am my own walking portfolio.” It’s just something that entered my mind when I was asked by somebody about why I always dress up for school. By dress up I mean do my hair and makeup! Don’t get me wrong, makeup is not really necessary or obligatory in our college. It’s a personal preference of mind to look presentable everyday. On top of that, I have this philosophy that I am my own walking portfolio. As a freelance hair and makeup artist, I believe that I get to attract clients with whatever look I wear everyday. My works are reflected on them. I came up with this idea to post a photo of myself in different hair and makeup looks everyday starting today and ending on Saturday (we’ll be skipping Friday since we don’t have classes on that day) IMG_2050

This is for Day 1 of 4. A simple looks that never really goes out of style. Pin-up!

Quick ways on how to achieve this look:

  1. Moisturize your face. *I used Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel—this product is the most amazing moisturizer ever made.
  2. Conceal imperfections. *I used my favorite Dollface Concealer in #3 using my Dollface Concealer Brush from the 12 Piece Pink Brush Set.
  3. Buff foundation all over your face. *I used CoverGirl Aqua Smooth Makeup Foundation in Creamy Natural and my favorite Marionnaud Blush Brush, I applied the foundation in a circular, buffing motion. This creates an even finish without streak marks.
  4. Set your powder in. *I used Fanny Serrano’s 2 Way Cake in Organza—100% recommended. This product is the best among all the powders I’ve used. Creates such a silky finish and gives amazing coverage. For PHP399.00, this is definitely worth it!
  5. Do your brows. *I filled in my brows using the wax part of the Maybelline BrowDefinist by Eyestudio, I also used the powder to fill in sparse areas.
  6. Apply highlight on the eyes. *I used Shroom E/S by MAC and applied it on the inner corners of the eyes, and all over the lids as well as the inner thirds of the lower lashline. This will instantly make your eyes look bright and refreshed!
  7. Line your eyes crisply. *I used my N38 Marionnaud brush to line my eyes with Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner.
  8. Curl your lashes and apply a generous amount of mascara. *Elf Mechanical Lash Curler and Maybelline Stiletto Mascara=perfect combination! Apply mascara on your lower lashes as well!
  9. Apply blush. *I used The Body Shop’s Roseflower Blush in 02
  10. Apply highlight powder on your face. *I applied Etude House’s Secret Beam Highlighter on the upper area of the apples of my cheeks, my cupid’s bow, my chin, my nosebridge, and my forehead. This step will make you look glowy!
  11. Apply lip balm. *I used my EOS Summer Fruit.
  12. Line and fill in your lips with a lip pencil. *I used Nichido’s Lip Liner in Blaze.
  13. Apply a matte red lip color. *I used Ever Bilena’s Matte Lipstick “Love that Red”—this product stayed intact and perfectly on my lips WITHOUT RETOUCHING FOR 5 HOURS! My lips did not dry at all. Just keep smacking them together once in a while.
  14. Contour your cheeks. *I used Fanny Serrano 2-Way Cake in Orleans to sculpt my cheeks.

And there you go…the classic pin-up look.

For the hair I chose to go all curly today. I used my BaByliss iPRO200 on all 6 sections of my hair. I used the inward and outward curling method to create more volume. The heat protecting spray I used is from Monea called “CPR”.

TIPS:

  1. After curling a section of your hair, spray on some hair spray and pull it together in a bun. I ended up with 6 buns on my head.
  2. Afterward, remove all the elastics, bring all your hair together and flip it upside down (bow in front really low)
  3. Run your fingers through your hair and spray on hairspray.
  4. The last step is to flip your hair back and ta-daaaaah! Beautiful.

I hope you enjoyed Day 1! See you tomorrow for Day 2.

Latest Purchase and Product Overview: BaByliss iPRO200 Sol-Gel Titanium Digital Ceramic Iron 25mm

BaByliss had a sale over the weekend and I did not think twice to buy the iPRO200 after getting positive feedback from Genn and Sannie who were with me while I tried the curling iron’s magic. From the original price of PHP 2,725.00, 30% was slashed off. I only paid PHP 1,907.50 for this little darling. I saved a lot, and I personally think that this iron is the best one yet. I initially wanted the one with the bigger barrel—but they didn’t have it on sale, and I was not up for spending over two thousand pesos for a curling iron. Since the iPRO200 looked mighty gorgeous and did the job well, I settled for chose it! VS’s curling iron was the #1 on my list (for PHP 2,200.00) but at the back of my mind, BaByliss was always another option—I’m glad I bought it!IMG_1704IMG_1705IMG_1706IMG_1709

Let’s talk about its specifications:

  • Soft curls—25mm
  • LCD Screen—displays the temperature accurately
  • i-Temperature Technology—lets you make perfect curls in record time, temperature will remain perfectly stable throughout the duration of the styling
  • Nano Titanium Ceramic—high density ceramic coating applied; glides and transmits heat, softens, shines and protects hair.
  • Cool tip
  • Swivel cord
  • Temperature settings from 100 degrees Celcius to 200 degrees Celcius

This curling iron heats up like the speed of lightning touching the ground (okay, that might be a little too exaggerated) but it really does heat up very quickly. The saleslady told me I can put it on 200 to build up the heat on the iron instantly, and bring the temperature down as I work with it.IMG_1722I did a test-run on my sister Lady (who looked gorgeous) when I got home, but I wasn’t able to take a photo of it! Nevertheless, I tried it on myself as well and I just loooooove the way my curls bounced! Here’s a little snapshot (pardon the shot, taken with the front camera of an iPhone 4):IMG_1723

And here are proofs of the amazing work of BaByliss:

IMG_1775IMG_1778

IMG_1776I will be filming a tutorial using this iron in two day’s time. This is really worth the money I spent.

Review: EOS Lip Balm in Summer Fruit

DSC02032EOS Lip Balm “Evolution of Smooth” precisely glides onto lips

I personally think that this lip balm is the best among all the other lip balms out there in the market. How do I love thee? Let me count (and expound on) the ways…

1. The packaging is beyond cute. Very clever. Very unique. Extremely adorable.

2. The flavors are all likeable. Summer Fruit, in particular, tastes fruity! (not that I licked the balm—you know what I mean by ‘tastes’)

3. Glides on the lips perfectly—the spherical shape of the balm enables this to happen.

4. The balm does not build up white residue on the lips after application

5. 100% NATURAL

6. 95% ORGANIC (I wonder where the other 5% has gone to?)

IMG_1371DSC02034I’ve been using this balm for about two weeks now and I can’t do anything but rave about it. This is a gift from Charles of WickeRmoss. My sister, Iza, has the same flavor—and she also can’t stop raving about it! She ordered hers from Charlene Tan of ShopSui.

I highly recommend this to people out there who are in search for the perfect lip balm.

Freebies and Gifts from Press Events & Launches

This is a compilation of the freebies and gifts I received from recent press launches and events. Starting off with the Zumba Fitness Event last May 20, 2011. I mentioned in my blog post [about the aforementioned event] that I was with Hazel of and Charles. Charles of (Geishcharles now WickeRmoss) have told me two days before the event that she wanted to meet me since I won her “upcoming contest” and that she will be giving me a gift for my birthday! I wondered about it because I didn’t join any contest from her blog. Do you want to know the reason why I won? Click this link and your question will be answered. Charles is just the most genuine person I have ever met. You guys should definitely check out her blog. She’s always giving away a lot of stuff! Here’s what I won from her “upcoming contest” and the gift that she gave me in advance for my 20th birthday:

This is a top/dress from Amour: Code-Limited (Fresh. Fashion. Filipino) You read that right—this is from a Filipino fashion line. You can check out the website from where this top/dress came from by clicking here. This is a sleeveless white top/dress with shoulder pads, studded round neckline, and fringe details on the lower portion. I have yet to wear this baby out and if I do, I will definitely do an OOTD entry about it.

For my birthday gift, Charles gave me an EOS Lip Balm! I’ve been meaning to get one for myself for the longesssst time! She even got the Summer Fruit one pour moi! This is just the cutest little thing ever made.

DSC02027Charles even included a sweet note inside the bag. Thank you so much for this Charles! I know this post is long overdue, but you know how thankful I am for all the stuff you gave me. I hope to see you again soon!

From the Zumba Fitness Event itself, we were given a free Zumba bandana (of course I got the pink one) and a pack of Xenical capsules (9 pieces) I have yet to try Xenical, although I’m quite hesitant to do so. Nevertheless, if I start taking it, I’ll be tracking my progress and share it on my personal blog for everyone.DSC02019DSC02020
