At 22 years old, I have never ever, even once, had any facial treatments. I have always relied on
topical products to combat my skin problems. I never found any reason to go to the dermatologist either—but I’m not saying I don’t have imperfections on my face! I have combination skin, and my usual problems are the following: occasional acne brought about by PMS, dark spots from previous acne, some whiteheads and broken capillaries! No blackheads (knock on wood)—something that I have always been proud of!
I was given the opportunity to try out a treatment by a new dermatological center, SKIN Dermatology & Laser Center located at the The Spa Wellness Center at Bonifacio Global City. I don’t usually accept treatments to be done on my face since I need my face for my job! Being a Youtuber and a vlogger, it’s difficult to risk the face since I use it every day (for my videos, to test out makeup, to meet people…etc). I was briefed about this treatment and let me tell you why I gave it a go.
IPL (Intense Pulse Light):
“This treatment usually takes 30-45 minutes. It is a machine treatment that effectively treats sunspots, hyperpigmentation, freckles and acne scars with revolutionary ELOS technology, non-invasive with no downtime. Done once a month. Standard number of treatment is 5-6 sessions. May be done to patients as young as 18 years old. Not suitable for pregnant or lactating women. Avoid sun exposure while under IPL treatment.”
Given the description of the treatment, let’s go back to my skin problems. One of them is having dark spots! So this makes me eligible to take the procedure. It is non-invasive, meaning no blood, no cutting, no slicing whatsoever; no downtime—which is perfect because I am always on the go, doing makeup reviews, videos, vlogs etc! And given that, I don’t have time to stop or let wounds [on the face] heal. I am 22 years old, way past the 18 y/o age limit, and lastly, not pregnant.
With all that, I decided to agree and try out the treatment. Before I continue, let me tell you that I have a live version of this blog (in video form) which I will be embedding on the bottom of this post. It’s for all those who want to watch the whole procedure! Yes, I vlogged all throughout. I caught my first reaction about the treatment. So if you’re scared to take it, just watch the video! It’s not as bad as you think it is! And that’s coming from a facial treatment virgin like myself. I was very happy that a certified dermatologist from the Philippine Dermatological Society was there to brief me about the procedure and analyzed my skin first before starting. IPL treatment is prohibited to be done on some people due to different cases. The resident dermatologist was amazing to talk to. He explained what the procedure does, what exact steps are to be done, and answered all the questions I had in mind.
IPL is not done around the eye area, and even the mouth area (especially on my case—having braces!) The derma said my teeth will feel “pangingilo” when it comes on contact with the IPL rays. 5-6 sessions is recommended for one to see the full effect of the IPL treatment. Of course, it takes consistency and time. I came to the clinic without any makeup on. Only face primer, mascara and brows. I wasn’t wearing waterproof mascara, so it smeared during the procedure! My tip? Go without any makeup on. You won’t need it!!!
I was asked to put on a robe, and lay down on the reclined chair. There was a nurse present, and she first cleansed my skin thoroughly. She used a face cleanser and two skin-cleansing sponges. She also gave me a great facial massage! It felt awesome!
Then the derma came in and started the procedure on me. He adjusted the strength of the machine to medium just to see if I could take it.
ICE COLD GEL (and I mean, SUPER ICE COLD) was applied all over my face to prevent burning of the skin. First blow was done on my forehead area. You will be able to see my initial reaction in the video! My eyes were covered with gauze and protective goggles (because we’re dealing with laser)
When the first blow was given, I was surprised! It didn’t really feel painful, it felt like a rubber band snapping on my skin portion by portion. I also felt the heat from the IPL machine per targeted area. The derma targeted my brown/dark spots around my forehead, cheeks, and nose area and jaw line. All throughout the procedure I just felt “gulat” (surprised) while I clenched my toes and held my breath. Haha! But there is totally nothing to be scared about! You’ll get used to the snapping sensation and you’ll be done in no time! My derma did 2 passes on my face all in all. 45 minutes flew by so fast.
In addition to the IPL treatment, he also performed the E-max Acne Treatment on my skin. This procedure basically kills bacteria on active acne, and prevents acne from forming as well! He targeted the active acne on my forehead and jaw line. No snapping sensation, this time! Just a bit of heat—and nothing else! I felt quite relaxed with this one! After the procedure, the gel was washed off and my skin was cleansed once again. The nurse applied sun block gel for the final touch to protect my face from the sunrays.
Initial effect of the IPL treatment? ULTRA SMOOTH SKIN. I kid you not! I left the clinic and immediately went home—I was glad it was raining! No sun! It is advisable to stay away/protect yourself from the sun while under the IPL treatment to prevent any spots from coming back.
The morning after the treatment, my active acne shrunk a significant size! I didn’t apply any topical medication as advised by the dermatologist. I guess that is a sign that the E-max Acne Treamtment is working. With regards my dark spots, they are still there. As I mentioned, it takes 5-6 sessions for one to truly see the effect! Consistency is key! As I am writing this post, 4 days have gone by and I notice brown spots peeling off. Exactly what the resident dermatologist told me. It’s working!
Everything worth having takes time. About 5 more sessions, and I think I’ll get the effect that I want. An IPL treatment costs 5,000Php per treatment at SKIN Dermatology and Laser Center
SKIN Dermatology and Laser Center is inside The Spa Wellness Fort at B8, Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Soon-to-open at Shangri-la Mall. For inquiries, please contact 403-8000 / 0917 809 2399.

My routine would be removing my makeup w makeup wipes, cleansing, toner, moisturizer + SPF and eye treatment everyday but sometimes it's not enough. I have to do weekly masks and monthly facials to maintain my acne prone skin well zit free! Frustrated with my skin, winning a prize like this to try a session on IPL treatment would be great!

What is your skin care routine?
ReplyDeleteFor me, the necessary steps are removing, cleansing, moisturizing. The most important part is removing ALL your makeup, if there are makeup residues left on the skin, it may clog pores and develop into blackheads or acne. Cleaning the face right after removing the makeup is the next step I do, with facial scrub and eskinol, I remove all dirt and oils on my face. Lastly, I put my Olay night cream and panoxyl before bed. =) I always put moisturizer on my face with a high SPF before going out, I also use cucumber on my eyes and facial masks every week.
ALWAYS wear sunblock to protect your skin! Drink lots of water to avoid dehydration and to keep your skin moisturized! :)

Before I sleep I do also use my favorite moisturizer/cream and apply acne treatment on my zits. :)

ReplyDeleteMy Skin Care Routine?
ReplyDeleteFirst in morning I use my favorite facial wash, cleanser, moisturizer (if you are combination-oily skin use gel based and oil free moisturizer and specially with spf!) before applying make-up. At night I use cleansing cream or cold cream to remove the dirt and make-up before using my facial wash again followed by cleanser again and moisturizer/cream. And I use facial scrub atleast twice a week and facial masks every week to keep my skin glowing and supple. :)
well, as a full time mom, I dont have lots of money to spend to any high-end products that are available in the maket.it also doesn't matter to me if its locally made or whatsoever, as long as it suits my skin type and it does a good job, its already a thumbs up for me! I only make sure that i cleanse, tone and moisturizes my face. I always use my Ponds cleanser, ponds toner and myra-e moisturizer with spf during day time and a heavy moisturizer at night like nivea creme.
ReplyDeletehope to win, so I can experience IPL heaven! LOL
What is my skin care routine?
ReplyDeleteIn the morning I make sure to follow this 3 simple steps. Cleanse, tone, moisturize. I first cleanse my face with a mild facial wash and pat my face to dry. Next I use my favorite organic toner (dickinson's witch hazel) to remove excess impurities. Then I use an oil free moisturizer to bring back hydration to my skin. Then when ever I go out I make sure that I apply sun block. Then I proceed with my makeup routine. I make sure that my makeup also contain SPF in it for additional protection.
At night First I remove all my makeup with ponds cold cream then I also do the basic 3 steps then I proceed to my skin repair routine. I apply retin a on problematic spots/acne/zits on my face. Then I use a spot brightening treatment to lighten ance scars and hyperpigmentation. Finally for anti-aging purpose I lather on pure vitamin e oil all over my face. This also helps to repair and heal scars and make them appear lighter. I'm only 22 years old but I make sure that I start fighting against skin aging as early as possible. Due to pollution and other factors, our skin tends to degenerate faster compared to 50 years ago when the environment is a better place to live in. Prevention is always better than cure.
Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturize, i exfoliate every other day to remove dead skin cells on my face, once every two weeks i apply peel off mask for my blackheads. I have oily to acne prone skin so this kind of treatment would be great for my skin :)
ReplyDeleteMy skin care routines are the basics, cleanse- am/pm using my human nature balancing cleanser, tone- am/pm with my human nature balancing toner and moisturize-(am) human nature day fluid, (pm) human nature night cream with collagen. Once a week I exfoliate my face using st. Ives apricot scrub and then afterwards I use peel off mask with tea tree from avon. I have oily sensitive skin so I stick to these all natural things. I don't usually go out, but when I have to I use a bb cream from avon that contains spf 35. So there. Thanks ms. Say!

ReplyDeleteMy skin care routine.
ReplyDeleteI do most of my skin care routine in the evening.
I wash my face with olay facial cleanser,
and if I wore make up, I use toner (any kind) for deep cleansing.
I exfoliate my face every other day
(depend on your exfoliant product on how often you should use it)
And then moisturize with olay moisturizer.
And in the morning, I just wash my face with water.
I dont wanna over wash my face. I once read online that water
is enough to wash the oil in your face in the morning.
Before going out, I make sure that I have UVA/UVB protection on my face.
My tips to avoid premature ageing.
1. Never ever skip any skin care routine. From removing your make up, up to washing your face and moisturizing. It is very very important!
2. Moisturize immediately! after washing, damp dry your face and put on moisturizer.
This is to trap the moisture on your skin.
3. use moisturizers as how it must be used. If it says day cream, then use it in day time. And use night cream on night time. This is because most day cream have UV protection that protects your skin during the day. And night creams have cell renewal properties that renews your skin cells while your sleeping.
4. Know your skin type! Skin care wont be as effective as it should be if your using the wrong product for your skin type.
5. Eat healthy, exercise regularly and drink plenty of water. Nothing beats a healthy lifestyle!

My routine's pretty basic: Morning, I wash my face, tone, then moisturize. I use Pond's facial wash (the black one), Skinwhite as my cleanser/toner, then either Celeteque (water-based) or Pond's (with SPF) for my moisturizer. Same goes with my night skincare routine, except that I remove my make-up first using Etude House's Face and Lip makeup remover. At least once a week I make myself a homemade facial scrub using a tea leaves from a used green tea bag, honey and rice flour (I got this from Bubzbeauty). Or if I'm feeling lazy, I just put on the Hyaluronic Acid face mask from Face Shop. :)
ReplyDeletemy routine is to completely clean my face everynight. Wash with facial foam then toner and moisturize, once or twice a week I use St. Ives facial scrub to exfoliate dead skin.

ReplyDeleteI have a simple face routine. I always Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize my face when I wake up and before I sleep. I'm using a moisturizer with the right amount of SPF to protect my skin from the harmful rays of the sun. And since I'm on my 20's, I'll start using anti- aging products soon!:)

My skin care routine:
ReplyDeleteIn the morning, i cleanse my skin, apply moisturizer then sunscreen.
Before going to bed, i cleanse my skin then apply AHA and tretinoin.
I'm taking oral antibiotics, doxycycline, for my acne one a day. I also do facial once a month. Everything i use is prescribed by my dermatologist.

ReplyDeleteIn the evening, i cleanse my skin then apply AHA and tretinoin.
I'm also taking oral antibiotics, doxycycline, for my acne. Everything is prescribed by my dermatologist.
At 30, it is important for me to apply skin care products that combat the signs of skin aging religiously.
ReplyDeleteIn the morning, I wash my face with a milky anti-ageing cleanser. Milk cleansers are good for sensitive skin. Then I follow it with a non-alcohol based toner. I swipe it on my face with a soft cotton ball so to eliminate the deep seated dirt that was not washed away by the cleanser. Then I pat it on afterwards so to push all the active ingredients into the pores. I let it dry then I apply my favorite moisturizer. I choose one that has anti-ageing ingredients and with SPF 15. I stay out of the sun all day. I always bring my umbrella with me. I apparently apply a non-greasy whitening lotion with SPF 50 all over my body.
At night I do the same cleanser-toner routine. I only wash my face twice a day. Then I put on my favorite anti-ageing night cream. I let it stay on my face for 30 minutes before I go to sleep.
My new found friends can't believe I'm going 31 this year.
Hope that I had somehow helped people out there with skin problems. Eating healthy and drinking lots of water could also help.
My skin care routine:
ReplyDelete1- washing my face with any soap, (mild - for gentle cleansing)/ (strong - atleast once or twice a week in scrub form with anti acne and whitening formula)
2- a whitening toner to get rid of the dark spots and even out my skintone
3- daytime (sunblock and pimple cream if there's some glitz or sunblock and moisturizer)
nightime (bleaching cream and collagen cream)
(once a week a collagen mask overnight -anti aging remedy)
