First Look: MakeupByToni ‘HOPE’ Series 12-Piece Brush Set

Hi everyone! If you watched my Day in the Life of Say vlog last June 25th, you would already know that I met up with a Singapore-based friend and fellow freelance makeup artist Toni, and her boyfriend Rafael. Toni wanted to introduce her very first series of personalized makeup brushes to me, and I am just delighted to share this with all my blog readers/subscribers!

It’s a season of makeup brushes for me (God answered my prayer too much! And I feel nothing but utter gratefulness)

Right after my little date with Toni and Rafael, I posted a photo of the brushes in Instagram and on Twitter. It was a bit premature to reveal the details then, since I had to gather photos and the likes to be able to do this blog entry wherein all questions will be answered.

Now that I have everything I need, it’s time to introduce the HOPE Series by MakeupByToni.

When Toni first handed me the brushes and talked me through it, I was easily able to tell how much work and love she has put into having these personalized and made. Far different from the usual. Definitely the stellar kind. My first thought was, “These could pass for SIGMA brushes!” ***for the record, this is the second set that merited that comment from me ;) The first one’s from Beauty Cosmetics (synthetic set)***

Let’s me talk about the brush set point by point:

COLOR—Toni wanted her brush set to be unique and different, hence the dark blue color of the brush roll made from synthetic leather.

LABEL—Part of the set’s uniqueness, they have the brand’s name on the brushes in holographic lettering; the name and number of each brushes on the other side of the handle in silk print and in a very feminine font.

NAME—Each brush is called “H___” (i.e. H01 Powder Brush H02 Duo Fibre) With the “H” representing the “Hope Series”

HANDLE—The handle of the brushes are made of wood and has a matte dark blue color

BRISTLES—The bristles of the brush are made of synthetic nylon (you won’t BELIEVE how soft they are, I kid you not. Very Sigma-ish, I tell you!)

A closer look on each brush:

PRICE—The Hope Series 12 Piece Brush Set retails are SGD85 or PHP 2,700.00 (exclusive of shipping and postage fees *hindi pa kasama ang shipping fee)

SHIPPING—MakeupByToni ships internationally

ORDERING—Now open for pre-orders, email Toni at, payment procedures will be advised once order is confirmed

FREEBIE—Every confirmed pre-order will receive a complimentary travel size H07 Tapered Blending Brush! *Ang bawat sigurado and kumpirmadong pre-order ay makakatanggap ng libreng H07 travel size Tapered Blending Brush!

The official launch of these brushes will be on August 1, 2012 (and I’m sooo glad I am able to share this to all of you this early!)

My review on these brushes as well as makeup tutorials using these brushes will follow in a few day’s time.

I hope you enjoyed this post! All the information you need is already in this post, for more information, here are the contact details of Toni:

“Make-up Thief: Be Warned!”

It is currently 1:32AM and I just received this email from Trish Velarmino, founder and CEO of I just wanted to do my part and spread this message to everyone.

The email read:

To make up lovers, the beauty & cosmetics and blogging community:

My cousin Inna got robbed today by a certain Lyka who claims to be a make-up artist. She messaged my cousin through her fashion blog saying that she needs a model for a make-up shoot to be used in Candy Magazine, August issue College Fashionistas. Inna wasn't hesitant because this Lyka said that Chesca Godinez is her friend, who is also a friend of Inna's. She then messaged Chesca on facebook to confirm the shoot. Chesca replied confirming that this Lyka is her friend so Inna went to the shoot on Tuesday (June 26) at 10:00am.

They met at Shakey's in a mall near Quezon Avenue. Upon arrival, Lyka fed her with mojos and asked about the make-up brands she is using. She said they had to stay there because they need to wait for Chesca. She claims that Chesca is also modeling for her. Then she asked Inna to go to the restroom to fit some clothes. She said that she needs Inna's photos wearing the clothes so she can send it to the art director of the shoot. Lyka then offered to bring Inna's make-up kit in courtesy. At that time, Inna was carrying a big and heavy bag consisting of personal belongings, including her DSLR camera so she agreed and trusted this person to carry her make-up kit. Inna fitted 2 outfits and Lyka took photos of her. While fitting the third outfit, Lyka told Inna that she will go out for a while to fetch Chesca.

Inna was puzzled when Lyka didn't come back after 15minutes. She had a feeling that this was a bogus shoot because first, Lyka doesn't look legit at all. Lyka left Shakey's with all Inna's make up and brushes with brands like Mac, Lancome, Maybelline, Bobby Brown, Body Shop, Paul and Joe, Victoria's Secret, Maybelline, Benefactor, Face Shop, etc. With these brands, Lyka knew that Inna was a certified make-up lover. Inna then called Lyka's number but the phone was already turned off. The, she called Chesca and asked where she is. Apparently, Chesca is in Enderun at that time and her Facebook has been hacked. We're assuming that this Lyka hacked Chesca's Facebook account.

We're not sure if Lyka is really her real name but we want everyone to be warned. Almost all of our close friends are in the blogging community and we don't want you to be victimized by this person. Maybe this person wanted to be a make up artist but does not have the means to purchase the needed materials to be one. That's why she's fooling other people to complete her collection of make-up.

Please pass this e-mail to your friends who are into blogging, make-up, etc.

Please spread the word and be careful!

Thank you Trish for emailing!

4U2 dreamGirl Lovelight BB Powder Review

It is an absolute must for me to blog about an amazing product the minute I finish road-testing it. I rarely give reviews about stuff that don’t really wow me [despite getting it for free].

4U2 Cosmetics sent me a bunch of products to try out and I really wanted to test them before giving in-depth reviews. Although I already did a tutorial using the products, I still needed to put each of them under separate tests. By tests, I mean, myself using them throughout the day—this way, I can really really tell that they work.

I really wanted to put this blog post out simultaneously with the experiment video that I am yet to make, but I just have to release my raves about this product!

Before anything else, let me give you a little background about 4U2 Cosmetics:

4U2 Cosmetics is exclusively manufactured by Colorcos Co., Ltd. (Colorcos), in Thailand under an exclusive and registered license with Bel*Air Cosmetics Corp., USA. 4U2 was launched in the Philippines in Sept 2007 in an exclusive partnership with Watsons. It is now available in major SM Department Stores and Watsons Nationwide.

I have always seen 4U2 Cosmetics in Watsons but I never really got around to try any of their products (now I am wondering why!)

Anyway, the first product from the bunch which really amazed me is the 4U2 dreamGirl Lovelight BB Powder.

  1. Confidence builder through all day complexion perfection.
  2. Has an exclusive formulation to achieve evened out and natural-looking skin tone
  3. Controls oil build-up on the face
  4. Has SPF 15 PA++
  5. Suitable for all skin types
  6. Comes in 3 shades (mine is #1)

I used this product to set my foundation in today before heading to school, it was my first time to give it a try and I never really thought it would be SOOOO AMAZING. No, really. My honest first thought about this product is that, “this doesn’t look special, I bet it wouldn’t work on me”  I definitely ate my words when I started dusting it all over my face.

Let me discuss this point by point…

1. The packaging is amazing. Who wouldn’t want a tiny PINK compact powder? It screams power to the feminine society!

2. It comes with a facial sponge which you can use, although I used my Sigma F30 Large Powder brush to apply it (you can use a sponge or a brush—whatever floats your boat)

3. Upon dusting it all over my face, my skin felt so VELVETY! (“Cakey, you mean…”) NO, NOT CAKEY AT ALL! That’s what really amazed me because usually when a powder gives full coverage, it would tend to look cakey on your skin, right? That totally does NOT apply to this product

4. My face looked totally flawless, believe me. Not only that—I noticed a hint of brightness on my skin! A healthy glow, you can say!

5. It blended very, very well with my skin tone—I am not kidding. It really DID blend with my skin tone

After all that amazement, it was time to head to school and put it under the test.

I rode a tricycle to school, it was a 10-minute ride with all the heat from the sun, the wind blowing all over my face and again all the heat from the sun (just to emphasize) You would THINK I’d get out of the tricycle with all my makeup melting away, huh?

I alighted looking fresh and FEELING fresh! No sweaty feeling (mind you, I was wearing a corporate uniform with a hot blazer) I was thinking, “Okay, so far, so good.”

I got into out air-conditioned room and went on with my 4-hour night class. I retouched only once (around the nose area) slight build up of a teeny weeny shine, but that was it. My face looked totally fresh and flawless all night long.

When I got home, everything looked intact. I did not look cakey at all!!! It was amazing. Hence, I had to write this review at once.

Do you feel like trying it out too, now? You can most definitely do! Why? It’s super affordable at only PHP 194.00!!! (Come on, now!) 194?! *now this product is definitely going in my PHP 500 Makeup Challenge video*

Available at all leading department stores and Watsons nationwide.

Disclaimer: product was sent for review from 4U2 Cosmetics, but all thoughts and opinions are my own—honest and unbiased.

Lancome Guest Makeup Artist

One of my biggest dreams happened last Saturday when I was invited to be a guest makeup artist at the Lancome counter at Shanri-la Plaza Rustan’s. I attended the fun bloggers’ event in the morning and went back to the Lancome counter that afternoon to be their guest makeup artist for the day! It was a special 2 day event because of the counter’s luxurious re-opening.

I was able to glam up clients and made them try out the newest products from Lancome! It was so much fun recommending products especially when you truly and honestly know how good they are and how amazing they work! I highly recommended the newest Maqui Blanc Miracle foundations because it totally works on me. It was amazing how the shades blended thoroughly on their skin and covered imperfections even without the use of concealers!

The newest shades from the Rouge in Love line are also to die for! I just find it so cool how they came up with colors appropriate to wear at different times of the day!

The Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara was also one product that really wowed me.

I saw and tried out familiar products from Michelle Phan’s tutorials! I don’t think there was ONE product that disappointed me. From the blushes, to the eye colors, mascaras…etc? Everything amazed me.

This is the makeup testing bar where I spent the afternoon at.

With the counter manager, Rose Francisco

Thank you so much for this opportunity, Lancome Philippines! It was an experience I will never forget!

Check out my blog post about the Lancome Re-Opening Event!

Lancome’s Grand Reopening at Rustan’s Shangri-La

Lancome recently revealed their new look at Rustan’s Shangri-La last Saturday and I am very happy to be invited to this special event.

They revealed their newest, the first, and the most luxurious counter—the Absolue counter! Just by looking at it, there is no doubt that the products from this range work like absolute magic!

We have the most luxurious product from the Absolue line, the Absolue L’Extrait (PHP 20,000 for 50ml)

Absolue LExtrait

What’s so special about this product, anyway?

Well, it is a miracle elixir, which contains 2 million Lancome rose stem cells which blooms only ONCE a year! I cannot wait to share my thoughts about this miracle elixir!

Here we have the skincare bar consisting of the BB Complete (P1,995) Blanc Expert, Genifique (P4,850) and Visionnaire (P4,950).

Here are Lancome’s makeup bars!

The eye makeup bar includes the newest  HYPNÔSE DOLL EYES Mascara! (P1,895)

Better than false lashes! Lancôme invents the first mascara to create long, luscious baby doll lashes. The perfect lash fringe, curved and clump-free with an ultra glossy, nylon finish.

Hypnose-Doll-EyesThe newest Rouge in Love (P1,295) line is exquisite! They came up with 22 different shades of lip colors perfect for different times of the day! The Jolis Matin shades for 8AM onwards, Boudoir Time shades for 6PM onwards and Tonight is My Night shades for 12MN onwards! The shades are just awesome!

Here is their newest Maqui Blanc Miracle line! The current powder foundation (Foundation Cartridge P1895/Case P995) I am very much obsessed with! I already did two videos in my YouTube channel featuring this product! You can check it out here and here.

This is the fragrance bar featuring all the wonderful fragrances from the brand including the newest Tresor Midnight Rose!

It was such a fun event! Met fellow amazing bloggers!

If you want to see what happened throughout the event, watch this video:

Thank you Lancome for these goodies! Can’t wait to try them all out!

Watch out for the Facial Cabin! Opening in July 2012!
