░ How-to: Bubble Hair Coloring from Etude House ░

Here is an in-depth blog entry about the Bubble Hair Coloring from Etude House that I promised to post up today. I was invited by Char, the owner of ShopSui and Skin Hour to the opening party of Etude House at SM Megamall last May 2, 2011 (event to be blogged soon) and I was able to pick up quite a few Etude House products, one of which is this famous Bubble Hair Coloring kits.
I first knew about this from my sister. The whole idea of having a DIY hair coloring kit with only using a mousse-like product, or as they say "bubbles"/suds seemed so surreal to me and I must admit it got me curious. Since the usual DIY coloring kits require a lot of blah blah's.
I have never actually colored my own hair before. I always have it done professionally at salons. I got my hair colored twice before (colored but never rebonded, whatsoever). I was always too scared to do it myself since the whole idea of messing up is just scary, so I leave all the trouble to the hands of my hairdressers.
I was surprised to see a whole shelf full of it at the opening party and I felt like I had to buy and try it out for myself. A box only costs PHP 378.00 (online shops sell it for 650-900 pesos) and I got two (2) boxes for myself since according to the Korean representative that I spoke to that time, one bottle wouldn't be able to cover my whole hair--which is actually quite very FALSE
I have past-waist length hair and one (1) bottle actually sufficed. I'm glad I didn't combine to contents of the two bottles together (it was my initial plan since the bottle seemed to contain only a little amount of product in it).
Now, let us go through the process of easily coloring your hair using the Etude House Bubble Hair Coloring Kit... (this will be a bit photo-heavy and text heavy as well)
Upon opening the box, you would be seeing the following: (refer to photo above)
1. Pump container
2. Instruction manual (which is not helpful at all [except for the photos] since all the characters are  in Korean)
3. Silky Perfumed Treatment
4. Gloves and plastic cape
5. Bubble Hair Color Sachet
To open the tip of the sachet, just twist the cap.
This bottle contains about 1/4 liquid product
(which is not water)
The photos are the only helpful information in this manual (helpful yet insufficient)
This Silky Perfumed Treatment absolutely smells heavenly! Acts as a conditioner after the hair coloring.
This pack contains a pair of protective hand gloves and a plastic cape (that you wear around your neck)
Let's start coloring! But first...
1.  Wear the plastic cape over your shoulder.
2. Wear the gloves.
So you're gonna look something like...
This!
Now we move on to the mixing...
1. Dispense off the product from the sachet into the bottle.
 2. DO NOT SHAKE the bottle. Simply TILT IT FROM SIDE TO SIDE until the product is fully mixed.
 3. Pump the bottle 2-3 times and a mousse/suds/bubbles will come out.
4. Start applying the bubbles/suds on your hair. Start on top, spread the bubbles/mousse evenly.

Continue applying until your whole hair is covered with the bubbles/suds.
*I did not feel any tingling sensation whatsoever upon application of the bubbles.*
Pull your hair upward and stroke/comb through your hair for the suds to be able to seep in.

5. Leave on for a good 30 minutes. NO NEED TO COVER YOUR HEAD WITH A SHOWER CAP.
6. After 30 minutes, wash your hair with shampoo
7. Apply the Silky Perfumed Treatment (as conditioner) and rinse once again
8. Towel-dry and blow-dry your hair
9. Style as you like
10. And voila...

Now let's do a comparison...
Before and after photos always convince.
So I mentioned how I had my hair colored twice before, and the second one kind of reached half of my hair and the roots are all black as you can see.

Bubble Hair Coloring totally covered ALL my hair--from roots to ends!
(Comparison: look down below!)
All in all, the Etude House Bubble Hair Coloring kit gets 10 stars from me!
I actually recommend this to EVERYONE WHO IS READING MY BLOG RIGHT NOW. I usually pay PHP 2,000 just to get my hair colored by professionals, but who would've thought that you could COLOR YOUR OWN HAIR (w/o having to worry about harsh chemicals harming your scalp or skin) for only PHP 378.00!
By the way, this shade is 3 Natural Brown, I wasn't able to take note of the other shades, but I saw Dark Brown and Wine.
Drop by the nearest Etude House branch and grab your own box now!
Hope this in-depth review helps, girls (and boys).

Hi Paola, I think so. :) But I'm not really 100% sure!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ms.Say! i super love you na! i was about to buy about 5mins ago sa isang onlineshop. its so mahal.. i was super shocked to know that its only 378. and i super love this tutorial. its very helpful. i was really scared to color my own hair. but when i saw you do it like that. i'm really convinced now. thanks a lot! <3 <3 <3

  27. Hi Christine! Good thing you found this post!!! They sell them online for MAD BUCKS!! This is actually my first time to color my own hair! So easy lang! :) I'm glad you like this. :)
I don't really know saan pa yung ibang branch eh, you better follow Etude House PH on FaceBook! You should buy during openings! Kasi mostly, out of stock agad yang Bubble Color since it's super cheap compared sa online. :) I hope you get a box for yourself!!!

  28. Waaah! miss say! i really reeeeeally love your blogs. :3 it's sooo helpful :] everytime i read your blogs, naeexcite ako tignan and itry yung product. haha :]

i have a question bout this bubble color, hindi ba siya nag ddry?

another one, medium brown kasi hair ko ngayon, hindi ba siya naiiba pag inapply sa colored hair? am scared kasi baka maiba yung kulay and hindi ma achieve yung hair na gusto ko.

    thanks :D

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thank you Patricia Dianne! :) I'm so happy you find my blogs helpful. :)
I had to constantly condition my hair for 1 week to prevent the dryness, after that week, normal shampooing nalang. No dryness in my case at all:)
If your hair is colored at the moment, there is a chance that the color you'll be applying won't appear as vibrant as it should be (because of your colored hair). :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi there! Thanks for this very helpful blog of yours! The moment I read the first sentences of your entry, tthis would be really helpful and it is! :D I bought the Dark Brown since that was the crew from etude answered when we asked which color fits my color tone better. :D I never dyed my hair before. I'm still quite nervous but I hope the result will be good. :) Thanks again! :P

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Chay! I read your post in FB. :) I'm so glad you found this helpful! My sister just bought her Dark Brown today! :) Just follow the steps I posted in here. I'm sure you'll do great! It was my first time to dye my hair on my own too! :)

  33. Hi Elcaloca! Thank you for reading my blog. :) <3 Of course I wouldn't get tired!!! :)

  34. Hi, my friend bought the dye after reading this tutorial. She followed the way you did kaso sa knya hindi ganun ka-kita yung color (black hair + red wine color) After a day, nung naligo siya parang medyo lumabas ung color pero hindi pa rin ganun kakita. parang celophane nga raw. XD

Ask ko lng din if after the application, normal ba na parang kumakatas pa ung dye pag nagshampoo? sa kaibigan ko ganun so I wanna know din kase 1st time lng niya gumamit ng dye. We are clueless :D

She loved the final treatment by the way. Frizzy kase hair nya and after niya matry un, bagsak ung buhok nya. nainggit tuloy ako :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thank you SAY! Finally, nakabili na rin ako. Same color as yours. :))

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi Ellie! :)
Have you tried going out in the sun? The color becomes really vibrant after a few hours (in my case, and my sister's case)I didn't experience any pagkakatas of the dye when I shampooed my hair. It's my first time as well, but wala akong naexperience na ganun, but I'm sure it's because of the color itself. As long as nacover mo naman your whole head with the foam, I guess everything will be alright. The perfume treatment is reaaaally reallly good. :)

Hi Gwen!!!! Yehey! I wanna see a pic!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. ask ko lang po sana if after nian, meron din shampoo pra mawala ung kulayor kelangan ko pa hintayin po humaba ulit para bumalik ung dati color.. kasi im afraid baka d po bumagay skin e..

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's a permanent hair color, so hihintayin mo pang magfade siya. You should ask experts about what hair color is suited for you before you try this out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I hope they have that treatment sold separately. It's really nice. I'll buy a bottle agad!
Maybe nga it's because iba yung color and wine red seemed darker. Yung light purple foam niya kase naging dark violet after a while. It took her an hour, 30 minutes application and 30 minutes to wait before rinsing it. We started panicking kase hindi pa tpos yung application, dark violet na yung foam. (Dapat ba iapply agad before the foam changes colors? I don't know if natural brown's foam changed color though.)
First day hindi pa halata yung color, pero after 2 washes, medyo lumabas na yung red-ish brown color, not yet too vibrant but noticable than the 1st application.
I'm curious on how long it will last too.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Ellie! Di ako sure if they sell the treatment separately. But I have to agree ang ganda nga nung treatment na yun. :) Anyway, yung foam sa natural brown did not change in color naman. You don't have to rush! You just apply it as it is. Don't worry about it! I think it will last for 6 months. Depending on how often you wash your hair. I suggest using a conditioner for color treated hair. Meron from Watsons, GlamLuxe is the brand, bright pink label for color-treated hair. Big jar for only 99.00

    ReplyDelete
  41. hi say! ask ko lng if this will work sa double-treated hair, tapos, nag compound henna pa ako around 2weeks ago. gusto ko magbrown hair ulit. nagbuy ako ng colormate henna na blonde tapos walang effect. nagblack lng xa tuloy... so sad. so wondering if this one will work for me :) thnks say. love the review!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi say! I would like to ask if one box is enough for my hair? I have a bra-length, THICK hair! :) I bought the dark brown bubble hair yesterday because of the grand sale, but was just able to get one. :( Hope you could help! I'd like to try it, but I want to make sure if one box is enough. Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi Kat! What do you mean by double treated? You mean you're going to use it on previously colored/treated hair? According to the saleslady, if you use it on colored hair, the color of the Bubble Hair that you will be applying might not appear as vibrant as it should be. I suggest you do a patch test muna or get your hair checked para hindi sayang if ever you're going to apply it. And be careful din not to use these chemicals so often. Have your hair checked muna :)I'm not really sure about compound henna kasi.
Hi Pink and Blue! I have past-waist length hair, and ONE box was able to cover it all na. I'm 100% sure na one box would suffice. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. thnx say! :) hehehehe. i just bought one from megamall. excited but fearful talaga ako sa results. ill do a test first as u said :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. bkt po purple ung foam na lumalabas sakin? bkt sayo white? dark brown dn ung sakin

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous, mine's NATURAL BROWN. I wonder why purple foam yung sayo. I'm going to ask my sister about that tomorrow 'cause she used DARK BROWN. Did you apply it on your hair? What's the result?

    ReplyDelete
  47. good afternoon. tanong ko lang kung dapat ba wet hair sa simula.. kasi i asked earlier at etude, sabi nila dapat wet hair daw. but then i think when you used yours, you had dry hair.. i am very skeptic about this, first time ko kasi. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. quick question.. when using this, dapat ba basa ang buhok. i ask earlier at etude, they said dapat basa daw. but when i view online tutorials, parang sa dry hair lang inapply. i am very skeptic about this kasi first time user po ako. thank you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi Bea Mae. It's totally alright to use it on DRY hair. I've seen tutorial on the Liese hair color and they apply it on DRY hair. I don't think you should apply it on wet hair. I'm actually doubtful of EH's answer to you, they can't even answer my questions when I bought my bubble color. I say, do as my tutorial tells you. :) It will turn out great. <3 Lemme know what happens!

    ReplyDelete
  50. just finished... i should say that my experience was a lot messier! (now i'm wondering how you stayed so pretty while doing it).. but it was worth all the mess. i love the results although it only turns 'redder' when exposed to light but i am satisfied nonetheless. thank you for the tutorial!

anyway, correct me if i am wrong but are you a thomasian? i saw you wearing commerce uniform kasi. i am an alumnus of AMV COA.. i just graduated last may. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Bea Mae! :) Yes I am a Thomasian. :D Wow! That's sooo cool!!! You're soooo smart ha!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow, it really works! I love that it's less than P400 too. It's always out of stock though. When I see it in store I'll buy it ASAP. Thanks for this! :)

    BTW, I'm a new follower! :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Helen, they just restocked! I suggest you try SM Megamall or Manila. :) Thank you so much!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. hi say! ask ko lang yung mga recent posts mo ba yun parin yung kinulay mo gamit yung bubble hair color?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi Say, just wanted to ask - I got myself Bubble Hair Dye as well, but the date that was written is April 14, 2011 - is this the expiry date or production date? I'm scared it might destroy my hair. Thanks! :) I love your blog by the way

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hi Abbey! That's really strange since I can't find any date on the box that I bought. Don't worry about it! I don't think it has any expiration date! You can call up Etude House to clarify it. :) Thank you so much for reading my blog! And I hope you post a photo of your new hair color on my fan page!

    ReplyDelete
  57. This really looks promising! Will definitely drop by Etude to get a couple of boxes for me and my mom!

Btw, it's my first time to read/browse thru your blog and the reading experience has been very fab! Keep on posting/teaching good make up techniques and beauty reviews!

    Kudos to you, Say! :-)

Great blog! :) Went to SM Megamall but the Bubble Hair Color in natural brown shade is out of stock :( Just curios though, if nung month of May ka nagcolor dear upto now ba may color parin? di ba sya kagad nagfade? with regards nmn sa application, sinection mo pa hair mo? ang ganda nung pagkacolor mo pantay and hindi nagstreak.. Anung tip mo para di magstreak? btw, i saw online na merong shade na sweet orange although di pa available locally. thanks much! :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi Anonymous! :) Actually after 1.5 months, may 0.5 inch na nagfade. Although maganda parin naman! Application: No, di ko na sinection. Just apply it. The suds will find its way and penetrate deeply. :) Kaya nga I love this Bubble technology eh! :D Oh wow orange! Haha!

  61. hi Ms. Say, tanung ko lang nag back hair color kasi ako gamit ung #1 BLACK last week gusto ko mag change color kagaya apo anag sA inyo na natural brown..tatablan o ba sa tingin nyo or kelangan ko pa poh e bleach? thanks;-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hi Adrienna! I'm not really the right person to ask. Although I think you should wait 1 month before coloring again... Try asking the people from Etude, dear :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Say! I already hoarded boxes of Bubble Hair Coloring! ;-) Just a quick question though, is it safe if I apply some on my brows? I want my hair and my brows to be of the same shade. Would you know if it can cause irritation?

    Thanks in advance!

    -R

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hi R! hahah that's great! :) i'm not really sure if it's safe to apply on the brows. Please ask the people from Etude House first. I don't wanna say "Yes" because I'm not totally sure! :D

  78. @jubelyn It stays on pretty long. I still have it right now.
@Joyce Hi Joice! I'm not really the right person to ask about this. Kasi I don't know anything about coloring, I mean like what you said. I think it's best if you ask a hair professional. Sa salon, perhaps. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted to! But you can always seek professional advice! :D
