░ Beauty Tutorial: Black Swan Look ░

"The only person standing in your way is you." -Thomas Leroy, Black Swan
Before anything else, I made this tutorial not because Michelle Phan did it, but because I was inspired (just like the other makeup gurus all over the world) by the look of Natalie Portman in the movie Black Swan. The movie is not yet showing in the Philippines but I was able to gather the concept through photos from the internet. I hope this simple statement will avoid the "You copied who..." comments that have been pestering everyone else who has done the same tutorial just because Michelle Phan did one, too.
I have been hearing "Black Swan" buzzes from all over town, including my sister, but didn't know what it was about until I watched Miss Jessica Harlow's tutorial on it. After watching, I typed in and Google-d 'Black Swan' and discovered how much of a great movie it is. I am really looking forward to watching it in 2011.
I did a tutorial on this using the photo above (left) mainly as a reference. I tried my best to create subtle, feathery strokes and I can say that I am happy with the final outcome of the whole look.
I did not have a crown, but I had my sister's Jennifer Behr-Inspired headband to borrow and it looked great for the whole ensemble.
I did not, likewise, have a dress with feathery accents, but I did have the perfect strapless little black dress. This cancels out the thought of me being naked in the whole duration of the video (for all the people who think such).
A list of the products I used to achieve the Black Swan look:

  • Maybelline BB Cream (since it is very light for my skin tone)
  • Triangular Sponge (used to apply the BB cream on my face and neck)
  • Nichido Final Powder "So Natural" (this gave that perfect matte and non-cake-y finish)
  • Dollface Powder Brush (used to apply the loose powder)
  • Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Black (what I used for all the linings)
  • Dollface Eyeliner Brush (what I used for drawing all the lines and curves)
  • Dollface 88 Earth Color Palette Silver Shade (what I used to fill in blank spots for the feathered eyes)
  • Beauty Treats Lipstick "Candy Plum" (the lipcolor I used)
  • Dollface Lip Brush (contoured my lips very well)
  • Dollface 88 Earth Color Palette Black Shade (mixed with the plum lip color to achieve a deeper plum look)
  • The Body Shop Roseflower Blush (for that hint of blush on the hollows of the cheeks)
  • Nichido Eye Contour Pencil in Blackest Black (to line the rims of the eyes with)
Now for the photo roll...

I hope you enjoyed watching, and if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to ask by dropping a comment in this entry.

  1. what's new?! eh you always copy her naman. You got talent but you never had originality. copy-cat.

anyways, you still did a good job. but you can easily tell the difference in the picture. yours is "malapad" and curvy. unlike the original na...rectangular and intact sa eye area. and the eyeliner in the nose part...yours went halfway. sa original, on the 1/3 of the nose bridge lang. but still good. not the best though. just an honest opinion.

  2. Hi Anonymous. It's really a pity how you say that. So you mean to say she copied Jessica Harlow just because Jessica did the tutorial first? Yours is an attitude I'm very much used to already.
AND F.Y.I. whoever said tutorials are made to replicate the EXACT same look?

  3. Oh, and anonymous? Maybe you'd like to read this from Michelle Phan herself: "Black Swan. Enjoy! Please leave Jessica and anyone else who also created this look alone. We don't need the drama and it's obvious we're copying from the movie. Not from each other."
I copy-pasted this statement from her Facebook account, in case you didn't know she made such statement.

  4. you have truly pulled off a very artsy look say! keep it up :)

  5. good job! you're so talented!

  6. looks amazing! i'm going to try to recreate this one, too:) it does look great and you look beautiful!

  7. @Anon: Say had it in a different shape (malapad and curvy as you said it) because obviously, she went for the natural shape of her eyes and brows. if you saw the video, you will see how carefully she used the brows as reference to create the shape. there, just saying.

  8. Pretty say! Tisha here. :) Wag kang padala sa mga opinion nila. na copy cat ka. And what's with that db? Nakilala ka nga dahil sa REMAKE'S ng tutorials ni Michelle Phan. :) Don't get affected. Inggit lang mga yan :) Im here ur number 1 supporter/subsciber/fan etc. HAHA! :) So happy holidays, Muchlove <3! :)

  9. Joice thank you for what you said! :) You are SO sweet! :)
